With a title like A Classic Horror Story, there’s a concern that this film might be yet another jumble of worn-out horror clichés dressed up as something fresh. Sure enough, directors Roberto De Feo and Paolo Strippoli kick things off with a familiar setup—a group of strangers wandering through spooky woods when, of course, things go horribly wrong (this is all part of the fun!). However, enough twists and intriguing ideas are sprinkled in to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
The social commentary is definitely present but could have been explored more deeply. At times, it feels like the filmmakers are juggling too many storylines. Yet, is there any horror movie out there that’s completely original? A Classic Horror Story plays by the genre’s rules while managing to stand out with delightfully eerie visuals and moments that provoke gasps. The ending doesn’t quite land as strongly as hoped, but it still keeps its promises.
Matilda Lutz, known for her role in Revenge, shines brightly in this film. The movie takes several creative swings—some hit, and some miss—but at the end of the day, it’s a solid little horror gem. While it may not become an all-time classic, it offers a fun, spine-tingling adventure. Grab popcorn and a cozy blanket for those jump scares!
